Ammonium chloride is an acid forming salt which acts as an ‘osmotic’ diuretic. Osmotic diuretics increase urine formation by exceeding the capacity of the renal tubules to reabsorb various electrolytes, notably chloride, resulting in excess electrolytes (mainly sodium and chloride) appearing in the urine accompanied by an increased volume of water.
WHY WOULD I USE RWR DIURETIC INJECTION?
When given intravenously, ammonium chloride has a capacity to provide a rapid onset of mild transient diuresis. It can be used alone for diuretic effect, or in conjunction with mercurial diuretics (the action of which it potentiates).
WHAT IS IN THE PRODUCT?
Ammonium chloride also has expectorant properties and systemic and urinary acidifying properties in a number of species. It is metabolised in the liver to form urea and hydrochloric acid.
